—Background

Dr. Prendiville graduated from the Design Management MA Course at the Royal College of Art. In her early career she was involved in a variety of marketing roles with design led companies including David Mellor Design, and the Finnish furniture company Artek. Early consultancy work involved investigating European design-led firms for the International Design Centre in Nagoya, Japan and developing internal textile information for the furniture company Knoll.

Alison Prendiville conducted her doctoral research supported by Thorn Transit Systems International. This research created a theoretical model, which enabled bench marking the effectiveness of revenue collection systems in the UK and Europe from both a public transport operator and end user perspective. In addition, she was involved with the European Union Framework IV Research Programme MIMIC (Mobility, Inter-modality and Interchange); this research, working with seven partners across the EU examined relative and absolute barriers to transport interchange to create the seamless journey in Bilbao, Copenhagen, London, Rome, Tampere and Warsaw. She has presented papers at a number of international design and public transport conferences on service design and the principles of design education.

Her research encompasses the application of learning technologies, having achieved a distinction through her design of teaching and learning material on the Higher Education Academy (HEA) approved SEDA (Staff and Educational Development Association) Application of Learning Technologies course. She is an Associate of the Higher Academy the UK’s leading body for enhancing, teaching, learning and the student experience. She is a fellow of the RSA.
