Suitable for a wide range of disciplines, a design or engineering background is desirable but not essential; the important considerations are a passion for generating ideas and translating these ideas to tangible outcomes that are industry compliant. All candidates will be expected to think expansively in order to engage with sustainable agendas and engage with industry decision makers.
The course takes you on a journey with industry, dealing with emerging agendas in pursuit of solving real world issues. The course also promotes ‘strategic visionaries’ to reframe and expand the ways individuals and organisations think about product and service advances in technology, behaviour and culture.
Master of Design(MDes) Innovation & Creativity in Industry is the consideration and use of design best practices that will enable organisations to reach new and exciting business opportunities, encouraging product and services solutions, job creation, and economic growth.
The course practices design-driven innovation and strategic management approaches to stimulate creativity and innovation for industry. It is about re-addressing problems efficiently by selecting and adopting the most appropriate project leadership and management method to gain effective results for industry.

One of the unique factors that differentiate this course is the combination of learning core disciplines from Design, Management, Engineering and Science. All of which have been carefully brought together to give a more fully rounded experience of working in multi-disciplinary team and in building a culture of innovation for the future.
Students are asked to challenge existing questions and theories, such as: design principles, consumption & production, technological solutions and interventions, and the impact of manufacturing unsustainable materials. Students are introduced to a wide range of validated design-driven thinking tools and methods that are currently being used in leading industry. Students are taught project and programme strategies and technical knowledge to appropriate disruptive innovation interventions where needed.
